Old Way: Write a check to a local charity
United Way: Make an investment in a coordinated system of programs that is designed to make a maximum impact on the community’s most pressing problems.
United Way serving St. Tammany recognizes that the needs of our community have changed dramatically since Hurricane Katrina. Now is not the time for the “old way”. United Way is changing the way we are looking at community involvement and philanthropy. By focusing in the root cause of our area’s problems, United Way is then able to work in tandem with local agencies to support health and human service programs that are organized in an efficient, cost-effective matter and that are getting results in the communities they serve.
To ensure that all community needs are addressed, the United Way has established the following priority initiatives:
- Crisis Intervention and Case Management
- Medical and Counseling Support and Education
- Employment and Job-retraining Services
- Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention.
In the coming months we will continue to see National and Regional support began to decrease, even as our needs continue to increase. Therefore, we must rely on each other as citizens of Southeast Louisiana to support programs that will be vital to a successful growing region. We urge you to make this investment in a stronger, safer, and healthier community by supporting United Way.
