Saints and United Way Coach New Orleans Youth to Success, Present 5th Annual Community Patrol Summer Camps
As New Orleans awaits the start of the upcoming football season, the New Orleans Saints are pitching in to ready New Orleans youth for school this coming fall through Community Patrol Summer Camps.
Presented in partnership with United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area for the fifth year in a row, the Community Patrol Camps’ goal is to teach participants skills that will improve their behavior and attitude in preparation for the new school year through football.
The three camps (which each lasted 2 ½ days) were held at the New Orleans Saints training facility and hosted local students ages 9-13.
The camps, led by local coaching staff, taught each participant various football skills such a punting and passing. In addition to learning skills, the camp newly featured an inflatable, Saints-themed obstacle course which included a rope climb and slide.
During camp rotations, participants also had the opportunity to learn “life skills” through lessons taught by representatives of the Children’s Bureau. Additionally, this year’s camps featured a Health Educator from East Jefferson General Hospital’s Wellness Center who presented on healthy lifestyles and the benefits of physical activity.
For the past five years, Community Patrol Camps have been provided free-of-charge to participants through the United Way and Saints partnership.
