August marks two years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast Region and volunteers from all over still continue to make their way to New Orleans to help the city recover and rebuild.
Thanks to a grant presented to United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area from United Way of America in partnership with the Home Depot Foundation, much needed tools were purchased for volunteers to use while in town.
“We were able to supply tools to numerous agencies throughout the Greater New Orleans region. These agencies will act as a tool lending facility for residents and will have tools that the volunteer groups can use when they are in town to support the rebuilding effort,” said Nicole Saulnier-Timmons, United Way for the GNOA’s Disaster Recovery Director.
The agencies who received tools, including lawnmowers and other various items, through this generous donation include Episcopal Diocese of LA, Beacon’s of Hope, Evangelical Free Church of America, Lutheran Disaster Response, St. Bernard Project, Emergency Communities, and United Church of Christ Disaster Response. |
