On February 6th, 2007, United Way’s Women’s Leadership Initiative will be celebrating the lifetime accomplishments of Lindy Boggs at the 6th Annual Public Policy Luncheon – Children: Our Focus, Our Future. 

Sherry Guarisco, Director – Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education for the Department of Social Services, will be the event’s featured speaker.  Guarisco will discuss Child Care at the State Level and the upcoming Quality Rating System.

Madalyn Schenk, the WLI’s Public Policy Chair, will present the group’s legislative agenda.  This “call-to-action” focuses on quality child care and its re-establishment in the Greater New Orleans Area.  The WLI will also address maintaining a legislative presence, employee-sponsored child care, and corporate partnerships to enhance economic development.

Other speakers include Flo Schornstein, the WLI Chair, and Phyllis Taylor, WLI Public Policy Vice Chair and Chairman/President of the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation.

The luncheon is taking place at the New Orleans Marriott Convention Center from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are available for $45 per person or $450 for a table of ten.

The event’s presenting sponsors are Capitol One and the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation. 

The WLI is an association within the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area that was founded by a group of corporate, civic, and community leaders. Only five years old and over three hundred and fifty strong, the group is working together to improve the quality of life for women and children in the New Orleans region through leadership, philanthropy, and advocacy.
