Home at Last for Ms. Williams
We are hard at work moving families home! On Wednesday, June 22, United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area and partners hosted a house dedication for Ms. Pamela Williams.
Ms. Williams returned to Plaquemines Parish just days after Hurricane Katrina flooded her home, determined to rebuild. But it turned into a nearly 6-year-long struggle, as she lived in a FEMA trailer while her Road Home money went to the mortgage company, the Small Business Administration, and to a contractor who disappeared after completing half of a badly built, unlivable house.
United Way’s Nonprofit Rebuilding Pilot Program*, the Committee for Plaquemines Recovery, the Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, and Family Resources of New Orleans all partnered to rebuild Ms. Williams’ home.
