| Your campaign should reflect the personality
of the company and its employees. Campaigns can be fun,
yet educational and informative. Even if you only have
a shoestring budget, it can still be interesting and memorable
for everyone. Here are some successful ideas shared with
United Way by other companies. We’d like to share
them with you.
* Have a Superhero Luncheon. Include
items like hero sandwiches, power bars, Gatorade, Powerade,
Wearies, spinach etc. Take photos of employee “Superheroes”
with short quotes on why they contribute to United Way.
Post prominently or run in employee newsletter or on company
Intranet or website. Send “Superhero-grams”
to your campaign volunteer team and/or employee contributors.
* Participate in a United Way New Orleans Saints
Day. Design and distribute Saints buttons. Allow
employees to dress in black and gold for the day.
* Hold a management car wash. Employees
pay managers to wash their cars.
* Hold a rummage sale for the United
Way. Employees donate items for sale.
* Take a picture of people’s feet.
Guess who they belong to for a fee.
* Be a “Champion for the United Way”
by implementing an Olympic theme.
* Have a “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”
Game, United Way style. Ask questions about United
Way and its member agencies. Those who answer correctly,
win a prize. Great way to train solicitors.
* Use a “Beach Party” theme
for a campaign. Decorate cafeteria or break rooms with
beach balls. Serve hot dogs and fruit kabobs. Have a casual
day and tell everyone to wear his or her favorite “Hawaiian
shirt”. Award prizes for the best outfit.
* Hold a “Fifties Funfest”
on the final day of the campaign. Serve pizza, hold a
karaoke, an Elvis look-a-like contest, play rock and roll.
* Chili cook offs are always popular.
Have each department form a team and prepare their special
“secret recipe” for chili. Use a Western or
Mexican theme for decorations.
* Fall is a great time for a football theme.
One company divided groups into teams with senior managers
serving as “coaches”. The team with the highest
participation or percent over goal wins various prizes.
* Hold an afternoon of games (beanbag
toss, three-legged races, and pie in the face etc.).
* Host a game show to highlight knowledge
of United Way and agencies (Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy,
etc.).
* Have a United Way trivia contest.
Send out an e-mail or printed question about United Way
or a funded-agency every day for a week. Those completing
all the questions are placed in a raffle drawing.
* Waffle or pancake breakfast, served
by management
* Spelling bee pitting employees against
management
* Walk/run-a-thons with employees pledging
per mile
* Silent auction with items donated
by management, employees or vendors such as: use of parking
spaces, refinishing furniture, tax prep, golf lessons,
free condo use, Christmas cookies, leaf raking, gourmet
dinner
* Guess the height and weight of the Heavy Weight
-- employees guess the combined height and weight of management
staff or specific departments |
