Be
A Leader: Donate: Planned Giving |
| |
| We like to think of planned giving as a donor service
that enables you to give gifts of assets during your lifetime
or through a will or testamentary instrument. In other
words, it can be given now or later. The process of giving
requires planning on the part of donors, their advisors,
and United Way. Planned gifts provide enhanced tax benefits
and some return an income to the donor.
|
| Cash |
| Contributions of cash given in the form of a check or
through payroll deduction plans are deductible up to 50%
of your adjusted gross income and can produce significant
tax savings. |
| |
| Securities |
| You can take advantage of the growth of your portfolio
by donating appreciated securities. Gifts of long-term appreciated
securities can be deducted at their full fair market value,
up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. Also, when you
make a gift of appreciated securities, you avoid the capital
gains tax, which would be imposed if you were to sell the
securities. Giving securities provides you with a double
tax benefit and effectively lowers the cost of your gift,
enabling you to give more than you thought you could. You
need not handle the actual certificates to make a stock
gift - simply tell your broker and he or she will transfer
the securities to the United Way. |

| Life Insurance |
| Naming the United Way as a beneficiary for all or part
of the proceeds of an insurance policy can provide tax benefits
for you and support those in need. |

| Bequests |
Naming the United Way as a beneficiary of your estate
will allow the United Way to continue to improve the quality
of life in our community for many years to come. Please
consider leaving a legacy that extends your lifetime commitment
to the United Way.This will ensure that you make a difference
in the future just as you make a difference now.
